Gaëtan Noual joined Hydroclimat in 2025. With a doctorate in atmospheric physics, he gradually specialised in the numerical modelling of atmospheric processes, from synoptic scale to regional climate.
Gaëtan Noual completed his thesis at the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (CNRM) in collaboration with INRAE. His thesis focused on the impact of temperate forests on cloud formation in south-west France. He then went on to do a post-doctorate as part of a European Space Agency (ESA) project. This project was devoted to the assimilation of satellite data into a global hydrological model on a climatic scale.
Within Hydroclimat, Gaëtan Noual contributes to the analysis of weather and climate simulations from major international databases (CMIP6, C3S, ISIMIP, TRACC, etc.). He works on calculating climate indicators, constructing composite indicators adapted to different types of hazard (drought, flooding, heat waves, etc.), and producing technical summaries for decision-makers to support strategies for adapting to climate change.
